Creatinine Clearance (Cockcroft-Gault)

Formula

CrCl (mL/min) = (140 - age) x weight_kg / (72 x Scr mg/dL); multiply by 0.85 if female.

Limitations

• The original derivation used total body weight and non-standardised (pre-IDMS) creatinine assays.
• The choice of weight (actual, ideal, adjusted) in obesity or oedema is a clinical decision; the weight entered is used as given.
• Not valid in unstable renal function, pregnancy, or at extremes of muscle mass.
